Settings

Open Edit > Project Settings > Plugins > ta Material Smith, or click Settings in the Material Smith panel.

The settings are stored in your project’s Config/DefaultEditor.ini, so the whole team shares them through source control. The panel, the import suggestion and the Python API all use the same settings.

  • Detection, Output and Meshes settings are read when textures are loaded into the panel or searched from Python. Load the textures again (Use selection) after changing them.
  • Defaults and Default Master fill the panel’s Options when the panel opens. Close and reopen the panel tab to pick up changes.
Setting Default Description
Suffix Rules The default name table (15 rows) Which name endings stand for which map, the channel layout of packed textures and the OpenGL and glossiness flags. See Texture set naming for the full table and the fields of a row.
Texture Prefixes T_, TX_, Tex_ Removed from the start of set names (T_Rock_D → Rock). Case is ignored and only the first matching prefix is removed. The first entry is also the prefix of packed textures Material Smith creates.
Ignore Resolution Tokens Enabled Ignore resolution and file type tokens such as _4K, _2048 or -JPG in texture names (rock_diff_4k, Bricks_2K-JPG_Color). See Resolution and file type tokens.
Setting Default Description
Instance Prefix MI_ Prefix of new material instances.
Output Folder Sibling Materials Folder Where new material instances are created. See below.
Custom Output Folder Empty Folder for every material instance when Output Folder is Custom Folder. Empty: the texture folder.
Texture Folder Names Textures, Texture, Tex Texture folder names that get a sibling materials folder (Rock/Textures → Rock/Materials). Meshes are searched from the parent of such a folder. Case is ignored.
Materials Folder Name Materials Name of the sibling materials folder.
Packed Texture Suffix ORM Suffix of packed textures made by channel packing (T_Rock_ORM).

Output Folder has three values:

Value Instance folder
Sibling Materials Folder If the textures are in a folder named like an entry of Texture Folder Names, a folder named Materials Folder Name next to it: /Game/Props/Rock/Textures → /Game/Props/Rock/Materials. Otherwise the texture folder.
Texture Folder The folder of the textures.
Custom Folder Custom Output Folder for every set.

You can still change the folder of a single set in the panel’s details.

Setting Default Description
Master Material Folder /Game/MaterialSmith Folder of the Material Smith master M_Smith_Standard (and M_Smith_Standard_VT). It is created there the first time it is needed; its default textures go into the Textures subfolder. See Master material.
Default Master Empty Parent of new material instances, shown as Master in the panel. Empty: the Material Smith master.
Master Profiles Empty How your own master materials are filled: texture parameters, switches and packed channel order per material. The panel adds an entry when you create instances with a master that has none. See Custom master materials.

The default state of the panel’s options. get_default_options() in Python returns them too.

Setting Default Panel option

Setting Default Description
Mesh Prefixes SM_, SK_, SKM_, S_ Removed from mesh names before they are compared with texture sets (SM_Rock → Rock). Case is ignored. The first entry is used in the panel’s hint A mesh named SM_Rock gets the instance automatically. See Meshes.
Setting Default Description
