FAQ

Yes. Enable the plugin and press P in game. The default profile includes eight frames, sixty-one stickers in seven packs and a shutter sound. Make your own profile when you want your poses, filters and logo.

No. A pose plays on a stand-in copy of the character’s mesh while the real mesh is hidden. When photo mode closes, the stand-in is removed and the character continues exactly as before. See Characters.

Any Anim Sequence or Montage that fits the character’s skeleton: single-frame poses or loops. No animations ship with the plugin.

They set morph targets by name, and names are matched loosely, so ARKit, Character Creator and VRoid style blend shapes work with the built-in expressions. Faces driven only by animation curves or Control Rig are not changed.

Yes. Everything can be done with a gamepad, including placing stickers and browsing the gallery, and the button prompts switch between keyboard and gamepad automatically.

My game uses CommonUI. Will my pause menu block photo mode?

Section titled “My game uses CommonUI. Will my pause menu block photo mode?”

No. When your game uses the Common Game Viewport Client, photo mode becomes the active CommonUI layer above your menus, so its input is not blocked, and closing it returns to the menu it was opened from. See CommonUI.

Yes. Restyle the built-in screen in a Widget Blueprint, give your own layout the documented widget names, or build a completely different screen: the menu is plain data you can read and change from Blueprint or C++. See Custom UI.

Yes. Photo mode is local to the player who opens it: the world keeps running, and poses, hidden actors and lights are only seen by that player. You can also turn it off for online games.

In the project’s Saved/Photos folder (the player’s local app data folder in a packaged game), in Documents/My Games/<Project>/Photos, or in a folder you choose. See Photos & gallery.

Why doesn’t my character get an Expression or Look row?

Section titled “Why doesn’t my character get an Expression or Look row?”

The rows only appear when they can work: Expression needs morph targets on the character’s meshes, Look needs look-at or eye bones (or a bone named like “head”). The UE5 mannequins have no face, so they get no Expression row.

Can players keep the camera from flying through walls?

Section titled “Can players keep the camera from flying through walls?”

The camera collides with the level and stays within the profile’s distance limit (15 m by default). Use a Lensman Area with Keep Camera Inside to keep it inside a room. The camera passes through characters on purpose, so they never block a shot.

Section titled “Which engine versions and platforms does it run on?”

Unreal Engine 5.1 to 5.8. Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS are enabled; it has been tested on Windows. Consoles are not in the plugin’s platform list. MP4 clips are made on Windows only; clips are GIFs on the other platforms.

Yes, short clips: GIFs on every platform and MP4 videos on Windows, with the same frame, stickers and logo as photos. Clips have no sound. See Clips.

Yes. A look (lens, filter, frame and photo lights) can be copied as a short share code such as LM1-4F7Q-K2ZD-9PXR, which other players enter on the Looks tab. Turn codes off with the profile’s Allow Share Codes. See Looks & share codes.

Yes. With HDR output on, the photo is made from the HDR picture and saved as SDR (PNG or JPEG), so it looks right everywhere. See HDR displays.

Will my abilities fire while photo mode is open?

Section titled “Will my abilities fire while photo mode is open?”

With the Gameplay Ability System (Lyra included), photo mode adds blocking tags to the player’s ability system while it is open. See Abilities.
