Yıldız Chalet PavilionFetih 1453
The Byzantine palace of the feature film Fetih 1453: the emperor's throne room and the corridor that leads to it. The actors were shot on green screen; the palace around them was built in 3D and composited into every shot.
The throne room.
Carved wooden stalls, a mosaic floor, frescoes and gold leaf: the finished set, before the actors step in.
From green screen to palace.
Drag the line. On the left, the plate as it was shot; on the right, the finished shot with the palace built around the actors.

From clay to gold.
21 steps of the throne room: the grey blockout, the carved wood, the frescoes, then the gold. Point at the band to stop it, click a step to look closer.
Seven jobs, one artist.
The breakdown closes on the list of jobs the shots took. Every line on it was done by the same person: a one-man crew from the first camera track to the final comp.
- 01Match movingSolving the real camera, so the 3D palace moves with every shot.

Magnificent Century
Establishing shots for the TV series Magnificent Century (Muhteşem Yüzyıl): Ottoman Istanbul with its palaces and its fleet, and the cities of the age from Baghdad to Tolna. Every shot is a full CG environment.

Naiad Water Simulation
A rowboat pulling across open water. The wake, the ocean surface and the foam are three separate fluid passes, simulated in Naiad and rendered with Krakatoa and V-Ray in 3ds Max.
Hours of simulation, hundreds of gigabytes.
In 2013 a shot like this meant tens of millions of particles per pass, minutes per frame and a disk full of cache files. These are the numbers from the simulation sheets.
| Pass | Particles | Voxel size | Per frame | Total time | Disk per frame | Total disk |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Main simulation | ~16 million | 0.03 | ~2:30 min | ~14 h | ~420 MB | ~126 GB |
| Ocean deform | ~16 million | 0.03 | ~50 s | ~4 h | ~420 MB | ~126 GB |
| Foam simulation | 3.5K–4 million | 0.03 | ~25 s | ~2 h | 1–150 MB | ~24 GB |
