Point Draughtsman at your storyboard panels, a shot list or an FCP 7 XML edit, and it builds the master sequence: one shot per row, each with its own cine camera, the listed lens and the right length. While you lay out, the panel sits over the camera view. When the board changes, sync again and your camera work stays.
The board SB_Lighthouse: six shots, seven panels. sh030 is picked and its second panel sits over the camera as Lines; sh040 has no panel yet.
A re-import: one new shot, two changed (a duration and a lens), three unchanged, and a warning for a shot without a panel. Nothing changes until you press Import.
A board animatic with burn-ins: shot number and name, title, timecode, frame counter, panel and the dialogue as a subtitle, exported as MP4.
How it works
The previs setup, done for you.
No more typing every shot into Sequencer, adding a camera per row and keeping the storyboard open on a second screen. A storyboard is an asset, so the whole team works from the same board through source control.
01
Import
A panel folder, a shot list (CSV or plain text), an FCP 7 XML edit, or any mix. Review every new, changed and removed shot first.
02
Build / Sync
A master sequence with one shot per row: its own cine camera with the listed lens, a camera cut and the right length.
03
Lay out
Scrub in Sequencer: the panel under the playhead sits over the camera view. Switch to Lines and match the drawing.
04
Animatic
Export the board, the camera or both side by side as MP4 or PNG frames, with burn-ins.
Panel over camera
Match the drawing, not your memory of it.
While the master sequence or a shot is open in Sequencer, the panel under the playhead is drawn over the level viewport, panel by panel as time goes on. Pick a shot or a panel to show it without Sequencer. It is a post-process pass on the active viewport only: nothing is placed in your level.
OverlayThe panel over the scene, with an opacity slider.
LinesOnly the drawn lines, tinted: match the composition without hiding the scene.
WipeThe panel on the left, the camera on the right.
CornerA small inset of the panel in a corner of the frame.
Features
From the board to the playblast.
Import from what you already have
Panel names like 010_A.png, SC01_SH010_P02.png or Seq1_Img3_Frame48.pngare read automatically, or set your own pattern. Shot lists from Excel or Google Sheets, in English or Turkish, with durations in seconds, frames, 3+12 or timecode. FCP 7 XML with exact panel timing.
Every shot shown as new, changed (with what changed), same or removed, with its matched panels and anything the reader didn't understand.
Sync keeps your work
A shot trimmed in Sequencer keeps its length, a lens changed on the camera is kept and reported. Pull timing brings Sequencer edits back into the board.
A camera per shot
Spawnable cine cameras with the listed lens and a filmback in the board's aspect, and a camera cut for every shot.
Four animatics
Board, Camera, Side by side and Board over camera, as MP4 or PNG frames. Shots without a panel get a title card.
Burn-ins
Shot number and name, timecode, frame counter, panel, lens, dialogue as subtitles and a title, in any character the font has.
Made for the team
The storyboard, its panel textures and its sequences are assets: the whole team works from one board through source control.
Python and Blueprint API
Import, review, build, sync, pull timing, overlay and animatic export from scripts.
Python
Rebuild the previs when the board moves.
Read a new storyboard delivery, review the plan in code, sync the master sequence and write tonight's animatic, all from a script.
The Fab Personal license is $19.99: individuals and companies with up to $100,000 in gross revenue in the last 12 months. Above that, the Professional license is $49.99. Both get the same plugin with every feature and the full C++ source.
Which storyboard tools does it work with?
Any tool that exports images, and any tool that exports Final Cut Pro 7 XML: Toon Boom Storyboard Pro, Storyboarder and most editing tools. Shot lists come from any spreadsheet saved as CSV, or from a plain text file.
What happens to my work when the shot list changes?
Syncing only changes what the list changed. Cameras, keys and other tracks in the shot sequences stay; a shot you trimmed in Sequencer keeps its length unless the list gives it a new one; a lens you changed on the camera is kept and reported.
Does it change my level or my game?
No. Cameras are spawnables inside the shot sequences, and the panel overlay is a post-process pass on the active level viewport only. No actors are added to the level, Play In Editor and packaged games are not affected, and nothing of Draughtsman is packaged.
Is the camera animatic a final render?
No. It is a fast render of the level viewport through the master sequence, like a playblast, for reviewing timing and framing. Use Movie Render Queue on the same master sequence for final frames.
Does it read Excel files directly?
Save the sheet as CSV first (in Google Sheets: File > Download > CSV). English and Turkish column names are recognised, and decimal commas work.
Which engine versions are supported?
Unreal Engine 5.0 to 5.8, in the editor on Win64, Mac and Linux. MP4 animatics are written on Windows; on Mac and Linux animatics are PNG frames.
