Sound

Machines next to each other can talk through their speakers and microphones. Sound carries little, but it needs no setup at all: no network settings, no shared folder, no code. It is meant for desks side by side.

On the Sound page What the listener gets
The selected assets A ticket. The listening editor uses it to fetch the assets over the network, with everything they use, and the usual review.
The selected material instance Its parent and parameters. The listener builds the same material instance (the parent must exist there).
The selected actors’ placement The static mesh actors selected in the level: meshes, transforms and labels. The listener places the same meshes.
A short text A path, a note, a name. The listener shows it and copies it.

A ticket still needs the two machines to reach each other over the network; the sound only replaces finding the other editor. A ticket takes about a second at Normal speed.

  1. Press Run check once on each machine. It plays a short test on each speed and listens with the same machine’s microphone (about 15 seconds), so it needs speakers, not headphones. The result shows which speeds work.

  2. On the receiving machine, press Listen. The microphone is only open while it listens; Stop listening closes it.

  3. On the sending machine, choose a Speed and press Play next to what you want to send.

  4. What arrives is listed under Heard on the receiving machine.

Speed About Good for
Robust 11 bytes/s Noisy rooms, a few meters
Normal 45 bytes/s Desks next to each other
Fast 180 bytes/s Close range, quiet room, decent speakers
Ultrasonic 2–3 bytes/s Nearly inaudible; the microphone must hear above 17.5 kHz

Every frame carries error correction (Reed-Solomon), so a few wrong bytes are repaired. If nothing arrives, try a slower speed, turn the volume up, or move the machines closer.
