Looks & share codes

A look keeps the lens, filter, frame and photo lights together, so a whole setup can be applied in one step. The Looks tab lists the built-in looks, your game’s own and slots for the player’s, as tiles with pictures. Any look can be copied as a short share code that other players enter to get the same look.

A look keeps the focal length, roll, depth of field, exposure and lens effects, the filter and colour, the frame, aspect ratio, guide and logo, and the photo lights.

It leaves the camera position, time mode, characters and stickers alone. Lights are stored relative to the camera’s view of the character, so a look lights any subject the same way.

The tab shows the looks as tiles in two groups:

  • From the game: the six built-in looks (Golden portrait, Noir street, Dreamy pastel, Cinematic 2.39, Retro Polaroid, Rim light drama) with the profile’s Include Built In Looks on, then your profile’s Looks. Players can apply them but not change them.
  • My looks · 1 of 8: Max Saved Looks slots for the player (8 by default). Free slots read Save current look. A saved tile shows its name and date (“Look 1 · Oct 24”) and the look in one line, for example “85 mm · f/1.8 · Vintage 80% · Polaroid frame · 2 lights”.

Pick a tile and press Apply look, or press the select button on it (double-click with the mouse): a look applies, a free slot saves the current look. Under the tiles, for the player’s slots:

Row Does
Save current look here Saves the current settings with a small picture of the view. On a saved look it reads Save current look here (replaces it).
Rename Opens the Rename look box: type a name, then OK or Cancel.
Delete Empties the slot.

The player’s looks are kept in the TALensman save game slot, with their pictures.

Give your game’s looks a picture with Thumbnail. Without one, the tile shows the look on a small copy of the view taken when the tab first opens. That preview is worked out on the CPU, so filters with a LUT or post process materials show only their colour settings. The player’s looks keep the picture taken when they were saved.

The Share code row shows the code of the chosen look, such as LM1-4F7Q-K2ZD-9PXR, with Copy. With a free slot chosen, it shows the code of your current settings. Copying shows “Share code copied: …”.

Enter a share code… opens the code box:

  • it shows the code in its own form as it is typed,
  • a summary line says what the code holds, for example “85 mm · f/1.8 · Vintage 80% · Polaroid frame · 2 lights”,
  • it warns about typos (“This code has a typo. Check the letters and numbers.”) or a code from another game (“Made in another game.”),
  • Paste pastes from the clipboard, Apply applies the look, Cancel closes the box.

While the box is open it takes the keyboard and gamepad, so typing never moves the camera or takes a photo.

Codes are forgiving: lower case, missing dashes, O for 0 and I or L for 1 all work. They carry a checksum against typos, and find filters and frames by name. A code from another game still applies what matches; a missing filter becomes None (“Its filter isn’t in this game, so the filter is None.”).
