The photo mode screen

The photo mode screen has a menu on the left and the picture on the right. The menu has up to ten tabs, each with a line icon: Camera, Looks, Lens, Filter, Character, Lights, Scene, Frame, Stickers and Clip. A tab without rows is hidden (no characters nearby, no lights in the profile, no sun in the level, no stickers in the profile, clips turned off). The rows below show the default ranges; most of them come from the profile.

Every row is one line: the label, then ‹ › and the value for choices, a bar and the number for sliders, or a switch for on/off rows. Grid rows (looks and stickers) show tiles with pictures. The tab’s main button (Apply look, Add sticker, Reset scene lighting, Record clip) is drawn in the accent colour, and some buttons show an info line under them. Rows that are not available draw faded. The line under the rows explains the selected row.

Row Values Notes
Mode Free, Orbit character Free flies anywhere within the limits. Orbit circles the selected character. Hidden when the profile doesn’t allow orbit.
Focal length About 12.6 to 137 mm Lower is wider, higher zooms in. The mouse wheel zooms too. The range comes from the profile’s field of view limits (110° to 15°), on a 36 mm full-frame sensor.

Time Paused, Frozen, Slow motion, Live Frozen keeps skies and effects alive. Live lets the world move. Hidden when only one mode is available.
Tripod Off, Position locked, Fully locked Position locked: the camera stays where it is: look around and zoom, but it doesn’t move. Fully locked: the camera doesn’t move or turn: change the menu and zoom without nudging the shot.
Reset camera Button Back to where photo mode started.

The camera starts at the game camera’s position, collides with the level and stays within the profile’s distance limit (15 m from the player by default). It passes through characters. In Orbit, moving forward and back changes the distance and moving sideways circles the character. Looking around is slower when zoomed in. With the tripod on, a tripod badge shows on screen; in Orbit, Position locked turns the camera in place.

The time modes the player gets depend on the game: a game that was already paused when photo mode opened stays in Paused, and network games only get Live. See Time.

A look keeps the lens, filter, frame and lights. The camera position and your stickers stay as they are. See Looks & share codes.

Press H (or X) to hide the menu and see only the picture; the area outside the photo turns black, and looking around with the mouse doesn’t need the right button. H, X, Esc or B bring the menu back.

Taking a photo flashes the screen, plays the shutter sound and shows Photo saved with a thumbnail at the top right once the file is written. See Photos & gallery.

Recording a clip hides the menu (it is never in the clip) and shows a red REC line with the time, such as “REC 1.5 / 3.0 s”, and a bar. The prompts read Space Stop and Esc Cancel: Stop keeps the clip, Cancel throws it away. Then Making GIF… 40% (or Making MP4 video…) shows with a progress bar, and Clip saved appears with a thumbnail, the format, length and file size.
