Data Validation
Blueprint Scribe registers a validator with Unreal’s Data Validation plugin. The Data Validation plugin is a dependency of Blueprint Scribe and is enabled automatically.
With the integration on, the audit rules run wherever Unreal runs Data Validation, for example:
- Validate Assets on assets or folders in the Content Browser,
- validate on save, if it is enabled in your project’s Data Validation settings,
- changelist validation before you submit to source control.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”Both settings are in Project Settings > Plugins > ta Blueprint Scribe > Audit:
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Run During Data Validation | Enabled | Runs the audit as part of Data Validation. |
| Min Validation Severity | Warning | Findings below this severity are not reported. With the default, Info findings (suggestions) are left out; set it to Info to see them too, or to Error to see only errors. |
The rules themselves, their on/off switches and their limits are the same as for the panel. See Settings.
Which assets are validated
Section titled “Which assets are validated”An asset is validated by Blueprint Scribe when all of these are true:
- Run During Data Validation is enabled.
- The asset is a Blueprint, a user-defined structure or a user-defined enum.
- The asset is loaded. Data Validation passes loaded assets to validators.
- The asset’s folder is inside one of the Included Paths and not inside an Excluded Paths folder. World Partition
__ExternalActors__and__ExternalObjects__folders are always skipped.
Every rule runs except Circular reference, which needs all assets of a scan to find cycles. Data Validation checks one asset at a time.
Messages and severities
Section titled “Messages and severities”Every finding at or above Min Validation Severity becomes one Data Validation message in this format:
[ta Blueprint Scribe] <Rule name>: <Message>For example:
[ta Blueprint Scribe] Event Tick: Event Tick runs 24 nodes every frame. Timers, events or a lower tick interval are often cheaper. The message starts with the rule name (for example Event Tick), not the rule id. Severities map like this:
| Blueprint Scribe severity | Data Validation message | Validation result |
|---|---|---|
| Error | Error | The asset fails validation |
| Warning | Warning | The asset passes, with a warning |
| Info | Info | The asset passes |
If an asset has no Error finding, Blueprint Scribe reports it as passing.
